THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a Head of Roofing to take ownership of our roofing category across our entire Northern Ireland branch network. This is a newly created strategic role that combines commercial leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on category development.
Your Mission: Position Haldane Group as Northern Ireland's leading roofing solutions provider.
The Role: You will develop and execute a comprehensive roofing strategy that drives revenue, margin, and market share growth. From negotiating with major manufacturers to coaching branch teams, from solving complex customer specifications to introducing cutting-edge roofing systems. This role offers variety, autonomy, and genuine impact.
The Scope:
* Lead the entire roofing category across our NI branch network
* Manage relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers
- Drive commercial performance through strategic category management
- Provide expert technical guidance to branches, sales teams, and customers
- Build our reputation as the roofing partner of choice in Northern Ireland
This isn't a desk job. You'll be out in branches, on customer sites, at supplier facilities, and in industry events – visible, accessible, and making things happen.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Strategic Leadership
* Develop and execute a winning roofing category strategy
* Drive revenue and margin growth through smart product mix, pricing, and promotions
* Identify and capitalize on market opportunities across NI
* Lead the introduction of innovative roofing systems and solutions
Commercial Excellence
* Negotiate with major roofing manufacturers on pricing, rebates, and partnership terms
* Optimize our product range across pitched roofing, flat roofing, accessories, and fixings
* Manage procurement to ensure availability, competitiveness, and profitability
* Turn data into action – analyze performance and adjust strategy accordingly
Technical Authority*
* Be our roofing expert – the person everyone turns to for answers
* Provide specification support and problem-solving for complex projects
* Train and develop branch teams on products, systems, and selling techniques
* Stay ahead of regulations, standards, and industry innovations
Customer Champion
* Build strong relationships with roofing contractors, builders, architects, and developers
- Understand their challenges and position us as the solution
- Attend site meetings and industry events to maintain market insight
- Win new business and grow key accounts
Branch Development
- Visit branches regularly to ensure roofing standards are maintained
- Coach teams to strengthen their roofing knowledge and confidence
- Ensure ranges are properly merchandised and displayed
- Share best practices across the network
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Essential:
Roofing Expertise Substantial experience in the roofing sector (merchant, distributor, manufacturer, or specialist supplier). You know pitched and flat roofing inside out.
Commercial Track Record Proven success in driving category or product line growth. You understand margin management, pricing strategy, and what makes customers buy.
Technical Credibility Comprehensive knowledge of roofing systems, components, and installation principles. You can confidently discuss specifications with architects and solve problems on site.
Negotiation Skills Experience negotiating with suppliers and managing commercial agreements. You know how to get the best deal while building lasting partnerships.
Communication Excellence Ability to influence across all levels, from branch counter staff to senior leadership, from contractors to specifiers. You make the
complex simple.
Driving Licence & Mobility Full UK licence and willingness to travel extensively across Northern Ireland.
Desirable:
* Category management experience in building materials
* Established network within NI roofing industry
* Understanding of branch operations and stock management
* Experience with ERP/stock systems
