Group Category Manager (Building Materials) - Newry/Belfast

Job description

Join one of the largest family-owned timber and builder’s merchants in the UK and Ireland. We’re looking for a Group Category Manager to take ownership of key product categories, build strong supplier partnerships, and help drive growth across our branch network.

About the role 
You will develop and manage a portfolio of suppliers and products – both existing and new – within defined categories. Working closely with our branch network, you’ll ensure they have the right products, pricing, and support to serve customers effectively and grow profitability. 
Key Responsibilities 
Category & Supplier Management

  • Negotiate and manage supplier agreements, securing the best products at the best prices.
  • Develop and deliver group strategies for your product categories in line with the Purchasing Director and Commercial team.
  • Identify and maintain a core range of products to be stocked consistently across all branches.

Data & Stock Management

  • Maintain group stock levels in line with company policy and market demand.
  • Support the Price Book team to ensure accurate product and pricing data on our system.
  • Liaise with the Purchase Ledger team to resolve supplier queries promptly.

About You 
You’ll bring energy, initiative, and strong commercial awareness to the role, along with:

  • Previous experience in a sales or purchasing role (preferably within the building materials sector).
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • A detailed and methodical approach to work.
  • High attention to detail and proficiency in MS Office.
